[Day 1, Late Morning] Saying Hello (Open)

[Shiba Yukari]

"For the type of garden... I was thinking maybe something with edible plants. I'm not really sure what there is on this island, but a lot of fruit trees and berry bushes develop beautiful flowers. Failing that, I'd just try to find a harmonious aesthetic balance. We probably can't expect an ornamental pond or anything like that as of yet, but I'd like to showcase some of the natural beauty this island has to offer. And honoring Suitengu and Isora jointly is likely wise- sea and shore meeting here as they do. But you're right that the forest shouldn't be neglected, and... I confess a personal fondness for Konohama means I'll probably try to find a place to honor her as well..."

She bit her lip, wishing she had some paper and a brush just then. This called for some design sketches...

[Shosuro Yingzi]

"Konohama? I cannot say that I remember that name but I did not quite pay as much attention as I should have during the theology lessons they tried to instill upon us when I was back home." He answered. "I cannot imagine too many fruit trees out here that would be edible or at least that are similar to the fruits we have on the mainland but that gives you the chance to find new ones or different varieties. Berry bushes should be plentiful though but if you plant a garden like that then it will encourage the wildlife to stray further out of the forest and nearer to our location. It could become dangerous."

[Shiba Yukari]

"With so many people?"

She frowned.

"I think an animal willing to brave that would be doing so already..."

[Shosuro Yingzi]

"Hunger is a driving force for many. When there are untouched sources of food it is easy to see why they might want to go there. Even an orchard or farms experience brave animals looking for easy food and it does not end well for anyone."

[Shiba Yukari]

"Hm. I'd hoped to persuade less... artistic types of the garden's value by growing edible plants that could help feed the community, but you raise a good point, Shosuro-san. It would not do to draw herbivores out of the forest if their predators follow..."

[Shosuro Yingzi]

"You still could but I would suggest then creating some sort of fencing around the area in order to limit the amount of larger animals are able to get in. There are several bushes that can be cultivated to provide thick barriers in order to keep the natural appearance but I am unsure if any of those species are located on this island."

[Shiba Yukari]

"And besides, hedges take time to properly... thicken."

A thought struck her.

"Maybe a trellis, for climbing vines?"

She cocked her head and smiled at him.

"You're a very insightful and helpful fellow, Shosuro-san."

[Shosuro Yingzi]

"My parents are gardeners and while I hold none of that knowledge I did overhear a few things during my youth." His answer came nonchalantly.

"But would a trellis with vines keep something large out?"

[Shiba Yukari]

"If built strongly enough, it should be as good as any wooden fence. And as the vines mature, they can be as good as any hedge..."

[Shosuro Yingzi]

"Would a hedge not take as long as the vines? Getting them to be as thick and sturdy to be comparable."

"It depends on the vines. Besides, no barrier will be perfect- the best insurance against animal intrusion would be a heavy human presence."
