[D2 LA] It's Go Time!

[Miya Akari]

Akari sat at a table, a go board and tea set, both set up. While she waited she prepared the tea for steeping, not wanting to over-steep if her opponent took a bit to get there.

[Koumori]

It didn't take too much longer for the Akodo to walk in, though with a hint of a limp that he was taking pains to hide as best he could. The weather here didn't agree with his stiffening joints and that much was clear. Still, when he entered, he bowed to the Miya waiting for him. "Miya-san, good afternoon."

[Miya Akari]

She rose and returned the bow, them waited to sit along with him.

"A pleasure to see you again Akodo-san."

She puts the tea in the pot to steep. As she continues talking she takes a stone of each color and mixes them up behind her back before giving him a choice of hands.

"I hope that the day finds you well."

[Koumori]

"The pleasure is all mine, Miya-san." He said with a grandfatherly smile, though he wasn't even that old, even if he felt like it. It took him a moment to sit down, too, but once he was there, he settled in nicely. "The day does find me well and interested in seeing how this plays out." There was a soft chuckle before he gestured to her right hand. Far be it from a Lion to choose the left hand.

[Miya Akari]

She opened her hand revealing a black stone, then the other a white stone. "The initiative is yours," she says pleasantly, placing the stones in respective bowls.

"The game or the supply issue?" she asks, curious.

[Koumori]

"Both. Truth be told, the supply issues aren't really an issue. Even without the pleasant amount of food that's been gathered today, we would've been fine. Shion-san worries and plans even for issues with the ship itself, believing in the possibility that it could perish on the trip here, even if it is short. It's why she insisted upon so much extra food. Incase we have to go a month without a supply shipment." He explained before nodding and setting a piece down in what seemed to be a bad spot for an opening move.

[Miya Akari]

Either he was giving a handicap or toying with her. Either way, worked for her. She was undoubtedly the inferior player, really only doing so to relax. She placed her stone in what would become the beginnings of a defensive strategy.

"I figured. There's more than enough fish to pull from the sea even if we lost all other supplies. Not that that would be ideal, but I certainly wouldn't complain about a fresh sushi diet," she said with a smirk.

While she waited for the next move, she readied the cups for pouring. The tea would be suitably steeped soon.

[Koumori]

"Most seem to enjoy the fact that the sushi here is so readily available and easily come by. I'd wager that most here have had more sushi during the time they've been here than in their entire lives. Granted, there are other fish dishes being consumed here, but so much fish is becoming a bit much for many." He placed his second piece in a slightly better position, but still what appeared to be lackluster plays.

[Miya Akari]

"I love it. In the same way a Unicorn loves to ride, I love to fill my belly with sashimi," she says with a chuckle. "Well maybe not quite that much or I'd be the size of a yokozuna, but I certainly don't tire of it."

She makes a second move, making the defensive strategy obvious. Then fills teacups while waiting for the next move. She sets Karutsu's next to the board in easy reach.

[Koumori]

He poured her cup, as is traditional, after she poured his. Then he took a sip of his tea and sighed softly as the warmth rushed through him. "Overindulgence leads one to hating the thing eventually. I've seen many children who eat mochi day after day after day and now they can barely stand to look at it." His next move was better, but not by much. Either he was going easy on her, he didn't know what he was doing, or he was preparing something.

[Miya Akari]

She definitely didn't believe that someone that plays via correspondence didn't know what they were doing. So it was either going to become a bloodbath on the board eventually, which would be some riotous fun watching all those stones swept up in an epic assault, or it would be leisurely fun. Either was good with her.

"I suppose that may be true. But I've been eating sashimi every day I've been on this island and it's always great. Perhaps it's the fish variety that makes it easier to eat repetitively?"

Her next move continued building that defense, as though she expected something dangerous to come at her eventually and she was trying to fend it of. She takes a sip of the tea and nods her approval of the blend. It was a good one. She's glad she has plenty of it.

[Koumori]

Whatever he was doing, he gave no sign or hint of as he set yet another piece down in an odd spot that didn't seem to serve much purpose.

"Perhaps, but yet all the variety in the world does not stop it from the simple truth that you're still eating fish every day. Day after day, fish after fish. It seems perfect at first but can become tiring. That is how I view it however, but there are many people who enjoy that sort of thing, so I cannot say it's impossible to deal with. Having it done in so many different ways with different fish does help, but how long will it prolong it?"

[Miya Akari]

"It is true, some people are more comfortable with rote repetition than others. You actually see it in some people, the way their eyes calm when they have the same cup of morning tea each day. They can look bothered or displeased until they get it, and not doing so can throw their whole day off. Most enjoy some type of comforting repetition in life. Maybe mine is tuna and snapper?" she replied with a shrug.

Her move continue building the defense. A sip of tea is enjoyed. This was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, and it showed on her face.

[Koumori]

"The daily repetition might be the only way that they maintain control in their life. When so much of us is dictated for someone else, for our clans, the small, scheduled things can provide some relief, you are correct." Then he paused, remembering someone. "Kitsuki-san is actually in such a position. When there is something unexpected that interferes with her schedule, she becomes difficult, more so than usual." He set down another piece, slowly placing them in strategic places now.

"There are worse repetitions than tuna and snapper, and less tasty, as well. You picked good ones."

[Miya Akari]

Akari's responding placement continued to build a defense that was more general, since she didn't know what direction the assault would come from. But she could feel that it was coming.

"Yes, I've noticed. She is a very precise individual and doesn't seem to appreciate other's lack thereof. I imagine that repetition among the Lion often involves training. Getting exercise at the start of each day to keep sharp."

She sips after her latest stone placement.

[Koumori]

"Exercise in the morning. Exercise in the afternoon. Exercise in the evening. Then time to rest and relax before needing to go through it all again. Of course, what forms the exercise comes in is always the question. Sometimes it's physical, other times mental, but we must keep ourselves ready at all times. Even that is too off schedule for her. She needs to know what, when, and where everything is happening. Bit annoying, but we couldn't ask for a better quartermaster."

Yet, nothing happened still. He seemed content to slowly add his pieces to the board in a disjointed fashion, but one that slowly was starting to take shape into something.

[Miya Akari]

"Yes. She is a very capable woman. I admire her dedication to duty, as she seems to live it with each breath. I'm not sure if she's ever not thinking about what needs to be done three steps from now," Akari says with a nod. "I believe that she may take notes on her own sleeping habits while she is resting, to figure out how she might do it more effectively." There was levity there, but she did seem to have admiration for the Dragon.

To test the waters, Akari makes an aggressive move with her next stone.

[Koumori]

He hummed softly when she placed the stone, almost seeming surprised when she did so. Then the shook his head, as if he had said something to himself. "It wouldn't surprise me if she did, or if she had one of her attendants do so. Ah, but what of the others here? The ones that arrived recently. Any ideas on them?"

Like her, he set a piece that was mildly aggressive in response to hers.

[Miya Akari]

She takes a sip before while considering the move and her words.

"A few capable and interesting individuals from what I have learned. The Daidoji is possibly the one that has a skill set most suited for exploration, but I think they can all potentially be useful to the mission. Though we did get an abundance of gardeners. Not that I would mind a garden at all. The Ikoma definitely seems like a capable sort, and very duty oriented. Though, what that duty is specifically I have yet to figure out. The Scorpion sounded very practical in nature."

She finally made a move.

[Koumori]

He didnt exactly counter her move, but instead fortified more around it, reacting to what was going on.

"Hah. Gardeners. Perhaps we should see if they can use that knowledge for farming in order to create some extra food here. Maybe some leeks or daikon? I'm not too sure what would be suited to this place." He laughed and then took a sip of his tea. The rest though... I see. Sounds like it'll be an interesting group, no?"
