[Daidoji Kenzo]

Kenzo entered the forge, slightly favoring his left leg searching for the Kaiu who's name the place bore. Surely she wouldn't be somewhere else.

[Koumori]

She wasn't too far. The woman was sat at a bench, now carving away at something. When she heard him enter, she didn't say anything other than a grunt, which might've been directed at her work.

[Daidoji Kenzo]

He waited to see if there was moment he could introduce himself without interrupting her strokes with the blade. "Kaiu Kyo-sama, I am Daidoji Kenzo, it is an honor to meet you. I wondered if I might take some of your time."

[Koumori]

She finished up a few more cuts before looking over towards him. Then she grunted again. "Yeah? Not gonna waste my time introducing since you already know my name, but what do you want?"

[Daidoji Kenzo]

"Probably far too much." he said with a light chuckle. "I and some of the other new arrivals, well we are looking for a lot of things. Maybe we are too fresh from the mainland and a bit spoiled, maybe we are being impatient but there has been talk of things like a temple, a dojo, a bath house, a garden, a bar that won't kill everyone in it if a monsoon hits.

This is a lot of work and it would all fall on your head, but rather than come to you with a list of demands like a demanding child I have come to offer my services. I know nothing about wood and stone working outside of temporary survival shelters but I wish to learn from you and serve where I can.

I would like to become your apprentice."

[Koumori]

"I have not had nearly enough sake for this today." She said before setting down her work, getting up and heading to a cabinet, then opening it. Moments later, she pulled out a bottle of sake and took a long sip from it. Then she cracked her neck and looked over the Daidoji closer.

"My apprentice? A scout wants to become an architect now? Why go to such extremes when you could help out instead by gathering supplies and letting those who are trained do all the work instead? Why take the jump and go straight to building?" She paused. "Unless you're looking to learn how to spot the weaknesses in buildings and other fortifications?"

[Daidoji Kenzo]

"That's is one of the benefits but if I am being honest I think it will help with my trapmaking and survival skills. I can make a lean-to and other basic shelters but a better understanding of architecture will make everything I do better. Plus on the off chance we stumble into an ancient sorcerers tomb who do you think they will send in first? I'm a big fan of learning things that can save my life and the lives of others. I'm very good at staying quiet and out of notice if you would rather not look at me, I can just watch." he smiled confidently.

[Koumori]

Her expression shifted through many emotions before settling on one that was of disbelief. That was followed up by a scoff. "And I still have yet to see any benefit I would get of this. You'd be taught the rudimentary basics of the Crab techniques for building and in exchange... what? For you to teach them to the others and potentially even use them against us years from now?"

[Daidoji Kenzo]

You get someone who is eager and willing to help you in whatever way is needed no questions asked. I'm not asking you to teach me how to sabotage The Wall, I'm asking you how to teach me build a house. If there is a secret Kaiu technique for that then the rest of the empire has sorely underestimated your family....I mean, more than we already probably have. No tricks, no secret ulterior motives beyond wanting to survive this place and get a decent bath. Yes if we ever get out of here I am likely to use what you teach me to benefit the Crane but that's more a problem for the Matsu, not the Crab."

[Koumori]

She gestured to Yoshi, who had just walked in with a sandwich in his mouth and now a look of confusion on his face.

"I already have someone eager to help me, but if you're so interested in it, then you can learn the basics from him. He's not a bad teacher and he's built a few good sets of armor and houses. If you stick with that, then maybe I'll teach you some more, but right now I've got about six buildings to design because people keep bugging me to build them, like I can do them all over night, and I've still got repairs and modifications to do to the existing ones."

Yoshi now looked like a man who realized his life was potentially about to get a lot harder, but was trying to just focus on his sandwich.

[Daidoji Kenzo]

Kenzo bowed to the Kaiu and then turned and regarded his new "sensei" with a warm smile and a slight bow. "I look forward to your instruction, don't be afraid to tell me when I am doing something wrong, I don't want to build something that collapses on anyone. Assuming it does not interfere with my duties as scout I am willing to be here any time you wish."

[Koumori]

Yoshi looked between the two samurai, trying to figure out what had caused him to get into this mess, but then he seemed to give up and bowed. "Hai... I will do my best, Daidoji-sama..." He tried to seem chipper about it, but it fell short by a lot.

But then Kyo spoke up. "If that bar can still be up and not collapsed on anyone, then whatever you build will be just fine."

[Daidoji Kenzo]

"I look forward to learning all I can from the both of you and I am ready to begin if you are." He said to the heimin as he began to tie back his sleeves. "Once you finish eating of course, don't rush on my behalf as my first aid skills are nearly as bad as my woodworking so choking is a bad idea."

Kenzo would happily follow the heimin about, doing whatever he was instructed to and paying careful attention to the smallest detail.

[Koumori]

Yoshi still looked more than just vaguely uncomfortable as he looked between the two samurai. This was wildly out of his control at this point and his sandwich was quickly losing its appeal as he realized just how long the song and dance of etiquette was that he was about to have to play.

"Ah-ha... hai Daidoji-sama... I'll just... finish it later. After working." He mumbled before setting his lunch off to the side and trying to figure out what to do first. That, however, did end up being learning simple measurements and instilling the measure twice, cut once.
