[D1 LE] A Late Dinner

[Miya Akari]

"That is kind of you, but I am alright. Sparring with you will be plenty helpful and you will undoubtedly be called on for duties."

[Ikoma Matisutou]

Matisutou inclines his head to Akari in acknowledgement.

He also orders another drink. The one...it was not enough.

[Miya Akari]

She grimaced sympathetically at the need for more watered down drink. "Matisutou is not a very common name. Is it to honor an ancestor or a personal hero?"

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"It's said it's a variant on Marisu," Matisutou replies, shrugging. "Such is recorded and reported, at least, and there is no reason to doubt the truth of it. But if things are done well with it, perhaps others will take up the name in turn."

Another shrug, and a murmured word of thanks as the second drink arrives. "It can but be hoped that those who come after will value the example.

And Miya-sama's own name?"

"I have a fondness for pear trees. Much simpler," she admits, not having any ancestors of not that carry it.

[Ikoma Matisutou]

Something to remember thinks the Ikoma as he nods.

"Perhaps future branches will echo the trunk of such a tree," he offers.

[Miya Akari]

"Perhaps, but I would need to do something worthy of echoing. Which has yet to occur," she replied, not upset or concerned over this.

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"It will," Matisutou response. "It could hardly be otherwise."

[Miya Akari]

"I appreciate the confidence, and I have every intention of making it so. But sometimes fate is a little less cooperative. For all we know, I could step unto my room and be bitten by a poisonous spider, leaving me dead with no real accomplishments to my name," she said with a chuckle. "We can only work with the time we're given to carve out a path."

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"Fate ever goes as it must," Matisutou acknowledges, sounding very much like he's quoting something and adding "But it will also sometimes save from peril one who faces it bravely."

[Miya Akari]

"Words of an ancestor or your school?" She was curious, and wondered if maybe she had forgotten a line from Leadership. She didn't read it as devotedly as the Lion did.

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"Both, as it happens," Matisutou replies. "Others in the family have studied at the School, and no few have left their writings behind. Some have even entered into the Histories, those lucky ones, commemorated in the official record of the Empire.

"Mighty examples to follow after, truly."

[Miya Akari]

She nods at that. "Miya training at the Seppun dojo is rare enough that there is very little recorded about them. Much of the wisdom of my ancestors tends towards different duties, though there is still some wisdom that I enjoy. 'It feels good to be lost in the right direction' is a strange one that I particularly like."

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"That is a good one," Matisutou says, appreciation clear in his tone. He wets his mouth with the drink and adds "Hearing Miya-sama's interpretation would be welcome."

[Miya Akari]

"What if instead, you give me your interpretation of the words of my ancestors and I'll give you mine of yours?" she suggests.

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"As Miya-sama wishes," the Ikoma replies, and he takes another pull from his drink.

He ponders before answering. "Being lost offers the opportunity to find new things heretofore undiscovered. Being in the right direction still allows a person to reach their goals. Both are agreeable."

[Miya Akari]

Akari nods at the interpretation. "I do like that. As for the words of your family. I feel it suggests that the heavens see those that embrace fate in a favorable light. They set out a path for us to follow and bolster those that walk it with Courage."

[Ikoma Matisutou]

The Ikoma nods in turn. "Miya-sama speaks wisdom. It is gladly heard."

[Miya Akari]

"When leaning on wisdom of past generations, it makes it easier to see the world, no?"

[Ikoma Matisutou]

"Just so," Matisutou replies, good Lion that he appears to be. "None now would be without those forebears."
