Earth-shattering events are common place and even now in the year 978 there are still numerous places being uncovered. The Unicorn and the Miya work together, hand in hand, to travel the lands and while their maps are impeccable, they never can truly account for when the spiritual side of this world decides to appear. That was the case for Furihumu Island.
Off the coast of the Phoenix and Crane lands lies an island shrouded in mist. Numerous times, both clans have sent scouting parties and, in the Phoenixes case, even everything necessary to begin a settlement there, yet their efforts ended in ruins as the boats heading to the island would be destroyed enroute. Eventually, the island was closed off and left alone, as the Fortunes willed it.
Now, something has changed. The mists are cleared and the island is revealed to all. The Emperor’s Explorers, a group consisting of primarily Miya and Moto led by Miya Hiruka, have declared their intention to uncover what secrets have been hiding away and have sent a large scouting party to the sandy shores. The Phoenix and Crane, both not wanting to expend more resources just yet, have offered a ship each and a few samurai to the aid of the Explorers, but nothing more. Each of the other great clans have given spare samurai, and one Iron Turtle in the Crab’s case, mostly as a show of help in the eyes of the Emperor. Yet, the ever thoughtful clans likely have hidden motives to each of their actions.
Oddly, and not surprisingly, the Mantis, still a minor clan at this time, have said that Furihumu island rightfully belongs to them and are now fighting to claim it. For the time being, they are using diplomacy to do so, as even they would not attack explorers sent from the Emperor himself.
That was several months ago. After dealing with some unpleasant summer weather, Miya Hiruka has sent out a call requesting more samurai and supplies to help bolster the meager village that's been created.
