Day 3 (MM): Event: Build-A-Shrine

With yet more work to do, Kyo stood at the edge of the village nearest to the forest. The area destined for the shrine had already been cleared of any larger bushes and vines, though to remain respectful, the had been dug out by the roots and replanted somewhere else nearby. Kyo stood a few feet away from the empty area with a table in front of her. On that table was two blueprints ready to go. They looked similar in design, but the building material was different for each of them.

"Since everybody wanted me to build a damned shrine, here we are. We've got two options; three, really, but I doubt anybody wants the third option. These two options are we build it out of driftwood or we build it out of spare wood we've got lying around. Third option was we build it from wood from this forest, but we'd either have to cut down trees or go hunting for fallen ones that aren't rotted yet and that could take forever." Then she moved over to a smaller piece of paper.

"Then we have to decide who exactly is getting honored. There's Suitengu, Isora, the forest itself, or...." She squinted. "Whoever wrote Jizo at the bottom of this has terrible writing, because I didn't write her name, but I guess we'll throw her in, too. Now, just because one of them didn't get the big pick doesn't mean they also won't be honored. They just won't have the largest section." Done with that, she moved down in front of some baskets.

"So, after picking what you want, then you're going to start picking out decorations and getting offerings ready for the shrine. This should keep you all busy enough for a few hours. Bring them back when you're done and we'll keep them safe for later."

Akari was present to help out. She had no clue what she was doing, but helping seemed appropriate. Driftwood collecting seemed more her speed so she went about it.

Hanatsuko thought that the 3rd option could work but she wouldn't venture alone to find the fallen logs to make the shrine. She thought that the other wood might be necessary for future projects so driftwood it was.

"With respect to those more sensitive to these things, we're going to have to cut down some trees eventually and doing it to build a proper shrine seems worthwhile to me. So if option three is available it has my support."

"Driftwood would make sense for a shrine to Isora and Suitengu, less for a shrine honoring the forest... so I think we need to work that part out before we make any real choices about material..."

Phoenix gonna Phoenix.

"We can work something small. Then slowly upscale..." She looked at the horizon and the clouds. "It is not a temple... we just need a table and perhaps a few trinkets to commemorate the fortunes."

"Plus a roof and walls to protect it from the wind and rain, and we should probably put it on a raised platform in case there is a flood."

Yukari looked at the approaching stormfront.

"Whatever we pick is going to have some challenges to overcome."

The Doji nodded. "Yes... a roof though it might not be necessary...if a base is strong enough." She sighed "I trust Kaiu sama knows about goof foundations."

"Beg pardon," says Matisutou, who appears suddenly, "but why not simply a standing stone?"

"Ah... could be sculped to the fortunes that we would like to honor or... maybe painted to give a symbolism of what it is." Hana was inclined to the idea the Ikoma had given that way plants don't have to suffer.

"Have we had to move any stones large enough during building? Or do we know where there are any large enough?" Akari asks. "'And moving it will be quite the task."

Hiromoto was aiding those working on the shrine. They had yet to dedicate it and as he was pondering the issue he looked out at sea. Clear as the rare glass of the Unicorn there was to be a tempest. "An Omen. Just as we raise the foundations of this Shrine Osano-Wo himself has sent us a message. Clearly the shrine ought to be to HIM. What say you?" He turned to his compatriots.

"Certainly not a bad idea considering where we find ourselves. I think Osano-wo and Suitengu would be a great place to start."

"Pardon, but... we live on the shore here. Suitengu and Isora as a pair would make more sense- and honoring them together speaks to our situation on this island..."

"You make a good point Yukari-san, but deciding which kami to risk offending is tricky, should we not hear what Asako-sama has to say about this?"

"I agree, Daidoji-san. We ought to seek the wisdom of a monk or Shugenja in this matter, their word has much weight on spiritual matters. They are more practiced in determining the will of heaven after all."

Matisutou watches the exchange impassively.

Yes, he's still here, despite his player being heavily enmeshed in work.

Damn that RL no Oni.
